In terms of importance of artefacts the Egyptian Museum is considered the most important museum of its kind after that of Cairo. It's housed in the historic Academia of Sciences building, headquarters of the homonymous Academia. Built in the 17th century by the architect Guarino Guarini, the building also houses the Sabauda Gallery. The museum's collection boasts nearly 30 thousand items from the Palaeolithic period to the Coptic period. The are many unique pieces, from works of art to everyday and funerary objects.
